So we finally got so snow tonight. So on the way home I put it in snow mode before leaving. All of the sudden I started hearing this horrible sound coming from the front right when I would let off the accelerator. At first I thought the muffler was dragging, it sounded that loud. Almost like bad resingating or a tennis ball being shacked in a coffee can. I switch it back to auto and the sound went away, back to snow and it did it when I lifted off the gas. I brought this to the dealer before when it made the sound turning corners, but they could not replicate it. Any ideas on what this could be
seems most likely to be a differential problem, snow mode locks in a 50/50 torque split, and you might hear it cornering on normal mode because torque is sent up front. Thats my best guess.
It went away when I used sport mode in the summer. Can't do that with the snow on the roads. will this cause any damage if I can't get it into the dealership right away.
Just got back from the dealership. Once again they could not duplicate the sound. This time they took two techs with them and tried every mode on snow and dry. I tried snow mode on the way to the dealership and it didn't make any weird sounds. Makes me mad that it never happens when they drive it. Oh well I will drive it until it does it again or breaks then back to the dealership.
Little update. I get home yesterday and there a message from the dealer stating they have upper shock mounts they need to install. This was never mentioned to me when I picked it up or was even a problem.
Were you able to get your issue fixed? I just bought a 2011 JGC Laredo X on Saturday. About 30 miles from the dealer it started making a similar noise. Service manager was able to replicate the noise but could not fix it. We are taking it back there this weekend and leave it for a few days.
To be honest I haven't put it in snow mode again. All it's going to do is make me mad on the drive home and right now I don't have time to take it to the dealership.
Does yours make the sound in snow mode or any mode? Mine would make a front end noise in auto turning corners in the subdivision. Haven't heard this lately. In snow mode it would make the noise when letting off the gas and coasting. Notice this when doing about 50mph and letting of the gas.
Is your noise all the time at low speeds? Mine is random. The service manager can duplicate withe hard turning but sometimes does it when coasting to a stop, but not every time.
The owners manual does state that some noise and vibration is to be expected during snow mode operation. Sounds like yours is more than "some", but, some is relative
Not sure if there's a correlation but I believe snow mode does a lot with the front brakes to both clear the disks when wet and apply braking to individual wheels as slip is detected.
Very happy to report that this was a pretty minor problem. The drive shaft was not tight and it was contacting the heat shield. Took them about 5 minutes to fix and have not had any other problems with it.
My Jeep jus started making a similar noise, It sounds like i am dragging a line of tin cans behind the Jeep. I read the post, and i am hoping that it is rock stuck up somewhere, However, It comes and goes, pretty upset that i have had the Jeep for 3 Months and it has been to the dealership 5 times, now about to be 6
