OK, I finally have a chance to report back. I was correct in that the update did not take. The tech and I talked about it. He described it by saying that in the "Verify Software Reflash" section, item 6 asks if the HFM part number shows up as one of 4 items. In my case, after his first attempt on Saturday, the answer was, "No," because when he went to do it again this morning, it was one of those listed in the "Diagnosis" section, step 2.
After he finished the work, he and I sat in the Jeep and confirmed that it was completed. Yes, it does eliminate the "fast forward" sound when doing bluetooth streaming and the screen is lit up. Yes, it does make the connection via the dock cable work reliably.
