Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

Got delivery of my WK2 Borla ATAK rear section exhaust. I'm waiting on another delivery still before I start the install. I ordered an exhaust cutting tool to make easy work of cutting the stock pipes. For now here are some pics of the system. I'm planning on having the install done by later this evening. I'll try to get some vids posted ASAP. I'm going to try and weigh the old exhaust and the new Borla sections. That's it for now.

Stay tuned for updates!!

Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

I know you guys are excited about this and I do like the tips but since its only the rear section why not just replace the tips? I doubt this makes any power difference.

It's the new muffler/tip combo that I'm after. Also, just changing tips doesn't change the sound. That's my reason for buying the Borla. If we learned anything from the WK1 SRT8s, the exhaust was for just looks and sound. Maybe minimal power gains if any. I've heard Corsa is doing a full cat back around the $2k price point. But that's a hefty price for looks and sound. I'm into the Borla ATAK at $827. Seems fair to me. Borla needs to make their money after all the R&D going into the system. The ATAK is custom sound tuned for the Jeep. Parts are custom made, not just picked off a self and welded together.

I'd be tempted to cut out the muffler and put new tips on but I never really looked much into the wk2 exhaust. I know you guys have those flaps but I dont know whats located where in the exhaust system. Price sounds high to me but since its pretty much the only option they got ya.

The Borla keeps the exhaust valves in place. The instructions say to measure 3" behind the weld seam on the exhaust valves and cut. The valves are right around the rear diff area.

Yeah, not a lot of options at the moment. Mangaflow has had a system out for a while but sounds like garbage IMO. I ran Borla S on my WK1 SRT8 and loved the sound. That's why I've been waiting for the Borla on the WK2. The ATAK will be more aggressive than the "S" series.

Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

Looks good but I would tape them off and paint the inside with high temp black paint before I installed them. I think it makes a large pipe look a lot cleaner once it's installed.

Yeah I believe the flaps are why borla didnt do a full catback. I also heard a clip of the magnaflow and thought it sounded bad. I have a hybrid on my jeep: AR headers w/ cats, magnaflow catback with res delete and dcspecial tips.
