my passenger floor is soaked! is the TSB covered by jeep or will they still charge to recalibrate the sunroof and fix the drain hose??

i have 30k miles on my 05 but didn't extend the warranty....

is this an easy fix?

Outta nowhere my two front pillars started leaking and dripping out water...i think I got the same problem u had.....what should I tellem at the dealership so they don't try to jerk me?

this seems to be a common problem.

I don't mind using a bit of compressed air to blow out drains myself, I guess I've never seen (or maybe I've never looked) at the drains.

Could someone post a pic or page from a service manual where this is described?

Hey Smack,

I had the same problem with a leaky sunroof. Here's the TSB that helped me. All I did was hold the vent control down for 5 seconds or so. The glass moved up and down and then it recalibrated itself to the point that the glass was flush with the roof. No stealership for me! Hopefully this works for you.

i had the same problem too

Sorry I can't confirm if it will work for an 08 I have an 05. I say try it, its free and quick. See if there's TSB for the 08s. Good Luck!

Seems an easy do it yourself fix from the above info and even from the dealer receipt with what they did. I dont have a sunroof and had water leaking from my drivers pillar out the fastener snap cover. But the leak was caused by me removing my roof rails and plugging the holes with plastic panel fasteners and guess I didnt shoot enough sealant in the mounting holes first. The headliner is easy to remove after the rubber seals are pulled away, and the pillar comes right off after the fasteners are removed.

#14 ·
Mine just started leaking. I took the headliner partially down and removed the driver's side drain tube. Blew it out but it's still dripping through the fastener cover in the "A" pillar. I'll try to get some pics when I remove the headliner again to see what I can do. The "Pan" that the tube is attached to is very shallow and not sealed to the roof. Water should not be getting in there if the sun roof is sealing correctly. I cleanad the seals and put Armor All on them but leak persists. When I get the chance, I'll try aligning it as per instructions above even though it looks like it closes properly.

I took mine back twice to the dealership with that problem when it was still under warranty, Luckly, knock on wood, It hasnt happened since. I would get water leaking out the screw cap cover on the driver side pillar right by the hand grip.

#18 ·
Well I tried the vent button trick. All it did was open and sit there so I guess nothing gained there. When I get a chance, I'll take down the headliner and see what I can see.

#20 ·
Yep, that's where mine leaks. Hard to pinpoint just where it's coming from though.

I think I found the leak. Sorry, I'm dumb and didn't get any pics but I'll get some tomorrow except I'm not taking the headliner down again!
I lowered the headliner on the driver's side and ran a hose over the roof. I started at the front and the leak showed up almost right away. Not the sunroof or the roof rack. When you take the liner down, the roof has a second layer of sheet metal running across the windshield. That's where it was dripping, between the outer roof and inner piece. Weird, because there's nothing there on the outside but sheet metal! I couldn't figure it out. I looked at the trim around the windshield on the top and sides. The moulding, weatherstripping on the sides can be lifted away from the glass. There was crud built up under there right around the windshield seal. I cleaned it away and ran the water again. No leaks! I'll post pics of the spot I'm talking about tomorrow. I'm thinking there must be an opening in the sealant around the windshield though. I couldn't see anything obvious. Hard to see in there.

Here's the pics, finally. The first one is of the headliner. The leak was dripping right above the circled area

This is the side moulding by the windshield

This is the moulding lifted up where the crud had accumulated. After I cleaned it out, no more leak

I'm going to check this area out and clean it a few times a year. That crud under there could cause rot too.

Is the moulding easy to clip back in once removed?

Although I dont think this is the cause of my leak. Id like to clean it off at least and prevent any to arise from this area. I just tried mine own troubleshooting on my 20006 Grand CHerokee Overland with a leak for more than a month now from the A-Pillars. Jeep Service center did not fix ir correctly the first time, they only re-secured the weather strip above the windshield (which is already loose) and performed a TSB on some sort of gasket in the sunroof. Im diagnosing it to the drain on the left/right side of the fwd sunroof since I poured water slowly in each side and it drained fine on the left side, and very slow on the right side. The second time I poured it at a faster rate, and the water did in fact drip from the left A-pillar. Now my concern is where to take it as I dont trust the service center where I first took it.

I didn't remove the trim. If you open the door first, you will be able to lift the side mouldings enough to get a rag under there and clean out the crud. I do this a few times a year now.

I NEVER only repair just one sunroof drain... especially because to do one you detrim enough of the rear of the car that doing the other adds almost no time. If only one is actually leaking the other one is not draining properly ;) . If its customer pay then they get the whole schebang or nothing... I dont like to do jobs 2 times because I dont repair the known issues while I am in there.

BTW, TSB's are NOT recalls (as if it hasnt been said enough), chrysler doesnt cover the tab unless the labor op is covered by your warranty. I believe the recalibrate procedure I remember is opening the sunroof all the way, press close and while its closing remove the fuse powering the sunroof. reinstall the fuse and continue closing the sunroof... it may have been go to vent (not closed)... I cannot remember for sure off the top of my head.

Can anyone confirm this? My sunroof and A pillars leak as well. Need to fix this before serious damaged is caused.

DIAGNOSIS:
1. Verify the rear of the sunroof glass to roof flushness concern.
2. UNCALIBRATE THE SUNROOF.
a. Insure the battery is at least 12 Volts.
b. Place the ignition switch in RUN position.
c. Locate the sunroof fuse (Fuse 44 in the Power Distribution Center located in the
trunk).
d. While the sunroof is still in motion, have an assistant remove the sunroof fuse.
e. Reinstall the sunroof fuse.
3. RECALIBRATE THE SUNROOF
a. Press and hold the sunroof vent switch until it stops at the full vent position.
b. Verify sunroof operation by opening, closing, and venting the sunroof.
c. If the uncalibrate/recalibrate procedure corrected the sunroof glass to roof fit,
perform the Repair Procedure.
4. If the uncalibrate/recalibrate procedure did not eliminate the sunroof glass to roof fit,
use the procedures outlined in TechCONNECT® BODY/SUNROOF/GLASS
PANEL/ADJUSTMENTS to adjust the glass panel. If the sunroof glass is now flush,
perform the Repair Procedure.

the "manual adjustment" is you grab the bellow looking covers (the beauty covers on each side), if you grab them up by the glass where they mount and gently pull towards the middle of the car (starting at the end) it will come off and expose 2 bolts on each side, these bolts are mounted through slotted holes, if the above procedure doesnt work loosen the bolts and eyeball flush and tighten them.

Ultimately unless your sunroof is visually not flush with the roof this is not your issue, and its likely your rear sunroof drains. But according to chrysler there are some common pinch points on the front drain tubes too... the headliner would need to be dropped and the draintubes inspected.

Went to my local Mechanic today for a rotor change and mentioned the leak to him. He checked it out by air blasting the drain tubes and running water. He said water ran fine out of both ends and mentioned we should all file a complaint to:
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website and it is a safety issue if you driving and it leaks on the driver side.
Maybe if we all file a complaint it will be more noticed rather than dealerships getting complaints and not doing anything about it, but getting cash off it.

Here is the link:
https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
The link should be directed to the complaint page if not go to:
http://www.nhtsa.gov/ and click on File a complaint on the top right hand-corner.

It was funny when he was going to show me mjl2610's thread by googling the issue and finding so many TSBs and complaints over it.

Yea i had the same problem i thought someone had step on my sun roof. It doesn't close all the way. There's a gap at the end of the window it doesn't match the roof. But what I did was, I stand out side my 05 wk with the car on, i reach inside, the sun roof was close, and i press the Vent button. and I look at the sunroof when they both match "window and roof" push the Vent button again "you have to do it fast" you might not do it on the first try so keep trying.
