Heres an up close pic.

2. Disconnect the drain hose from the sunroof housing (1).
3. Separate the lower tube from the grommet in the body.
4. Drain any liquid from hose connection, if necessary.
5. Release the clips and remove the tube.

REAR HOUSING HOSE

1. Remove headliner (Refer to 23 - BODY/INTERIOR/HEADLINER - REMOVAL).
2. Disconnect the drain hose from the sunroof housing (2).
3. Drain any liquid from hose connection, if necessary.
4. Release the push pin fasteners and separate the lower tube from the grommet in the body.

it sounds like they drain thru the body out the bottom somewhere.......

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

I've got that...works very well. Just BE GENTLE! I've read about people that have used tht method with great results, and others that blew out connections or blew the line itself. I would regulate the pressure down real low, and work your way up. Kinda like the the folks on the Jersey Shore fist pump.

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

I blasted the lines today. The drivers side works great now and sucks down the water but the passenger side must still have a clog

ahh, ok. So there is 1 set of 2 drain hoses on each side of the jeep. Each set merges to the underside of the vehicle, 1 set on merges on the drivers side, 1 set merges to the passenger side.

thanks!

Jeep Lawsuit over sunroof leaks

We are currently investigating claims from owners of 2006-2011 Jeep Patriot, Liberty, Compass, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Commanders that have had sunroof leaking problems that have not been repaired. Many drivers don't know that this problem is well known to Chrysler and its agents, who have refused to address and correct the faulty drainage tubes, claiming that the leaks result from other non-Chrysler factors and not covered under warranty. However, between 1999 and 2010 Chrysler issued no less than NINE Technical Service Bulletins addressing the issue of faulty drainage tubes and water leaks.

The leaks can cause the following physical damages:

Degradation of structural components, wiring and passenger cabin;
Shorts in the electrical circuitry;
Engine stalls;
Instrument malfunctions in seat and window controls;
Standing water on floors and mats leading to degradation of floor carpeting and sub-structure;
Water stains;
Hazardous mold and mildew, with associated smells;
Dampened and damaged interior seats and headrests;
Weakened components and structures; and
Rust.

If you have experienced this problem please reply or send me an email at jkincannon@keefebartels.com. Thanks all and thanks to the webmaster for maintaining such a comprehensive site.

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

After a good, heavy rain, when I start driving I can hear my drains gurgle. They still drain, but obviously are partially clogged. I have a small water stain on the passenger a-pillar from leaving the roof vented during a light rain and the water building up.

Also, my driver door seems to fill with water and doesn't drain until opened. Then it splashes down on the sill and usually gets my feet. It IS coming from the drain hole though, it just seems like when closed it seals the hole. Any ideas on that?

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

Alright I purchased a 2005 wk about a month ago and found out that I said the same problem when I drove it thorugh my first ever car wash. I was like WTF I'm gunna be killed in my new whip. lol jk.

The first thing you are going to want to do is go grab a two liter and fill it with water. Open up your sun roof and look at the front gap right before the sun roof, under the window visor. Then you will see the front two drains. Start pouring water down each drain one at a time. This will illiminate the question of a clogged hose.

Now if yours is like mine all the drains where working properly. Now if you look just over the drain there will be a gap between the sunroof and the top of the vehicle. that is where mine was leaking it actually over flows from that catch rail onto the roof of the car.

My fix, was the sunroof was not completely sealing. So I took the car to the stealership and got the sun roof re-aligned for 60 bucks and haven't had one leak yet. PM if you have any further questions. I have pictures but im at my work computer (hard at work) and don't have thme here. There is also an adjustment you can do if you hold the vent button down for 5 seconds but that dosen't always re-align it completely. Depending on how out of alignment it really is.

Goodluck

from your post (and other posts in this thread), I get the sense that the drains really only fully "operate" when its raining and the sun roof is open (why you would do that is a beyond me though). The drains probably have a bit of water going through them when the sunroof is closed. So most folks would not notice a clogged drain line unless it was a car wash where pressurized water is sprayed at the sunroof, and even then if the sunroof were properly aligned, maybe none would get to the drain. does that make sense?
