Re: wk turn signal and light swich clicking

THe clicking that you are hearing is likely improper clearence of the cancel cam shaft on the turn signal indicator.

To check, as you spin the steering wheel feel the turn signal stalk. If that's the problem, you'll feel it when it clicks.

If so, new cancel cam has to be installed...not a tremendously difficult job to replace though you do have to be careful to keep the clockspring centered.

If that's not it, it could be the clock spring itself (though hopefully not...it's an expensive part...)

I think there was a TSB about this years ago...you can probably dig around and find it.

Re: wk turn signal and light swich clicking

WTF MATE! I just had a big thing typed out and my freaking computer pressed back by itself and its gone... none the less..

yes the cancel cam (no "shaft") as was later properly stated.

There is (was at least) information on replacing the cancel cam to repair this concern, there is an updated number... Ultimately I did that and it didnt fix the problem, it got a bit better but didnt fix it.

Ultimately I have heard it suggested that the problem is in the clockspring, but the clockspring is stationary, the part that moves is in the turn signal stalk the cancelor arm in the stalk is what moves out and interfears with the cancel cam, so I think the problem lies in the turn signal stalk, personally... I have yet to actually have to "fix" one at work, but as for my own, I didnt want to pay the money for a new turn signal stalk so I just trimmed down my cancel cam some and the noise is gone.

I think I might need a new stalk for all the lights turning on in dash. But I'm going to have a family member send me a new stalk and we will see if that solves the problem if not trimming of the cam thingy is what it sound like needs to happen.
Oh and if I need to trim the cam thing do I need to take off steering wheel I read that on this site ?http://www.wkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk_1900505.pdf

Ah yes, please feel free to disregard the inadvertent shafting

I will also mention, that mine started making the clicking noise within the first 6 months of ownership...never bothered to take it in, I just got used to it.

After about 100,000 miles of driving it like that, the clicking eventually went away on its own (I'm guessing one of the parts that caused the clearence issue eventually ground itself down).

So, if you can learn to live with it for a while it may sort itself out.
