Be careful with the full windshield done - I know that was HIGHLY illegal when I was in Iowa, and I'm sure they'd be just as pissy about it in Illinois where I am now. I had a friend who did the windshield on his pickup back in high school who was warned by the tint shop that if he was in an accident, he would be at fault since his vision was reduced. I don't know what the rules are everywhere, but it could get you into some serious trouble. Up to you, just wanted to pass that along...

You'll get in trouble if your other windows are darker than legal also. I see no difference.

Windshield strip is ghetto. IMO. 50% is not dark but the LLumar brand does reflect light. I'm happy.

If the law was absolute, then yes, darker than legal is of course illegal – however, is a cop going to be tougher on a guy rocking double 5% on his front windows or 5% more than the legal limit? Speeding is the same way – a guy going 8 over the limit may get a warning, but the guy going 40 over is going to get thrown in jail. Like I said before, I don’t know what the law states in Illinois, but I think some states would frown heavily upon the front tint. If anyone could find the law (and consequences) I would be very interested to see. I’ve loved the look of the dark windshield but was scared away by the hearsay from back in high school.

50% is not dark at all but makes a big difference if all the other windows are dark. That's why I feel it's safe to tint the windshield with something light. 50% or 40%

And nobody I've ever heard of getting into an accident with dark windows got into trouble. It would take strong evidence and study to bring that to the court.

Laws here would not cause somebody with dark tint to get into trouble even if they are not at fault.

But your right, I guess according to the laws in your state.
