General Grabber AT2

If anyone is interested in General Grabber AT2 tires, I just purchased a set from discount tire direct online. They had the 4 ply tires for $163 including shipping. The tires were backordered so the sales rep offered me the same tires in a 10 ply for $175. From all the comparison shopping I did, this seemed to be a great price. The other reason I went with this company is their warranty. They will replace the tire for up to three years or 3/32 with a new one and they don't prorate it! I couldn't find a better warranty and it was only $17. FYI.

Re: General Grabber AT2

10 ply is a lot heavier from exeperience on other rigs unless yours is a build rig going with the 10 ply will cause major problems down the road 10 is either 3/4 or 1 ton tires i would steer clear of then if you can bro

Never heard of anyone having problems running a heavier ply tyre than needed. You do get a bit harder ride due to the sidewall stiffness, but that it all. Can you send me links to peoples bad experience as been running 10 plys on my light weight camper trailer for 5 years now and no problems at all, but don't want one to start.

Re: General Grabber AT2

I actually checked the spec sheet from general tire today and the 10 ply tires are only 5 pounds heavier than the 4 ply. I'll post if I have any problems.

Good to know the cause. Trailer is running XJ Cherokee rear springs and 4 shocks from it as well, so should more than handle the change in weight from them.

Re: General Grabber AT2

I think it pays to do the old 4psi pressure increase trick from cold to hot to get the right tyre pressure. Too many people do not adjust for the different tyre sizes, loads or construction. Would make a big difference to the ride and therefore other components in the suspension if you have it at the correct psi.
Got little write up on how to do it here.

Re: General Grabber AT2

Air up your tires. Draw a line across the tread with chalk. Drive. Stop. Check line. Adjust tire psi until the line wears off to the edges of the tire.
