Matt's HID Installation Thread

Here are my install pics. I didn't get nearly detailed enough to do a How-To I had an appointment later that day, so I just didn't have the time to leisurely install them and get a lot of good "how-to" type of pictures. Hopefully though, the ballast and relay locations will be helpful to some down the road.

*ATTENTION: The passenger-side low-beam ballast (mounted on the air box) is a temporary mounting location. As my appointment time neared I just quickly picked a spot and mounted it quickly. It will be relocated soon.

3 of the 4 ballasts are bolted down and the 4th (which is temporarily mounted) is screwed down -- no double-sided tape for me; I just don't trust it with all the elements that can encounter it.

All wiring is mounted with zip-ties and relay ground properly grounded (LOL).

Bumper Removal -- this I did take enough pics to do a step-by-step How-To. The picture progression follows Kyle's written How-To. This was my first time removing the bumper and it was cake! Took 10 minutes to remove it and about6-7 to replace it. Super easy!

Forgot to take pics of the grille removal, but it's easy -- remove the 6 plugs that hold it in and then pull up and away at the same time.

Xentec HID Slim Ballast Fog Installation -- each ballast is bolted the metal frame that the front bumper attaches to. The fogs are a very easy installation and do not require the removal of the front bumper, but it did make it a helluva lot easier; definitely recommend it!

Pictures begin with the driver-side fog and then move to the passenger-side fog.

...continued...

Re: Matt's HID Installation Thread

Xentec HID Slim Ballast Low-Beam Installation (+ Relay) -- This installation is much easier if you remove the driver-side head lamp (just remove 3 bolts). The driver-side ballast uses a factory bolt next to the fuse boxes. The relay was bolted to the fender wall. The driver-side ground is grounded to the factory battery ground. The passenger-side ballast is temporarily mounted on the air box. The passenger-side relay ground is grounded to a factory bolt (a new nut was replaced and washers added).

Excellent write up Matt.. + rep

I'm going to need and remount my ballasts sometime with screws like that.. So far so good with the double sided tape, but I know my luck will run out soon..

I actually mounted mine in spots where even if the tape fails they don't really have any where to go.

Re: Matt's HID Installation Thread

Nice write up... I think I'm gonna relocate all of my ballasts this weekend to more secure locations. I kind of rushed through my install and have been wanting to go back and do it again and take my time and really secure everything down.

This is honestly one of the best bang-for-your-buck mods though.

Thanks Chris! Yeah, I just don't trust the double-sided tape a year down the road ya know. If they're zip tied well though they likely aren't going anywhere, I guess I'm always the type to go overkill, haha.

Thanks Frank! Yeah I started to rush as I got to the last ballast -- I'm going to re-do that soon.

And yes, I can't believe I waited this long to add HID's. Still shocked at the difference between halogens.

Re: Matt's HID Installation Thread

matt - one thing i forgot to mention is that the first time you fire up your bulbs you should keep them on for at least 5 mins. rumor has it that this prolongs the life of the bulbs/ballasts... this goes for the fogs and the lows.
