"lifter tick? Suuuure"

K... 2002 jeep wj 4.0. had what was diagnosed as lifter tick so i replaced the lifters. None were seized. Noise still exists. The rocker arms and push rods looked good. No warping or abnormal wear that i could see. Help please! The noise is so annoying, it can't just be "lifter tick"

Re: "lifter tick? Suuuure"

I had this problem with my 04' Jeep 4.0L. When you start it, does it tick until it warms up? That's what mine would do. Make sure they are all Torqued to the correct specs!

Re: "lifter tick? Suuuure"

could be a leaking exhaust mani gasket...have you checked those?

If not the oiling holes may just be a little finicky. They sludge up too easilt with a thicker oil. Start at the recommended viscosity and go up 5w

Re: "lifter tick? Suuuure"

Change the oil and put in some lucus oil. It helps I had a 5.9 1998 jeep and it had the same thing. I put in two lucus and change the oil and it went away.

Re: "lifter tick? Suuuure"

The noise is too localized around the top of the valve cover. A nice clacking sound that matches the rpms. I understand it's hard to diagnose without hearing it. My dad and have no idea what's next...

Re: "lifter tick? Suuuure"

Check that, if not do the Oil Thing, if not Re-Check your Lifters.

Re: "lifter tick? Suuuure"

I wouldnt use a thick oil additive as it can sludge/block up the oiling holes

Re: "lifter tick? Suuuure"

my wj 4.7 does that, its the exhaust manifold, a bolt sheared of many years ago and the exhaust hella leaks when the engine is cold, and it ticks and matches rpm
