Fuel gauge misreading

Some time ago my fuel gauge started to show a misreading. With full tank, the needle is a few milimeters passed the Full mark. This misreading seems to be over the full scale, at least with the tank almost empty it still shows something. I donīt want to change the whole tank unit for this, so my question is, is there any way to adjust the indication? One option could be by bending the float arm, but then i have to drop the whole tank. For example a small potentiometer in series with the gauge could do the trick? Anybody had this problem before and did find an easy solution?

Re: Fuel gauge misreading

Every vehicle I've ever driven has done that. The gauge always has gone slightly past "F" when I fill up at the gas station. I've also driven on "E" with the indicator dinging for quite some distance. Are you sure that something changed all of a sudden?

Re: Fuel gauge misreading

Yes, it did change all of a sudden. It was always exactly at full before. But more important is the empty indication. When the low fuel indication sounds, i still should have 10 Lts in the tank, but its now around 6 or so. Knowing this ofcourse i could life with it, but if there was a simple fix, it would be nice.
