Power Steering Fluid Leak

I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo w/ a 4.7L engine. In the past few weeks I have noticed a puddle of fluid under the Jeep. I looked under the Jeep and saw that it looked at first like it was coming from the power steering pump. Under closer inspection it looks like the connection between the high pressure hose and the pump.

Looking through forums it appears this is common. Where the pipe goes into the nut it looks loose and that's where the fluid looks like it's coming from.

Has anyone else had this problem and does this seem like a reasonable assumption? Has anyone removed this high pressure hose before and know off hand the size of the nut where it connects to the pump. The largest open end wrench I have is 3/4" and it was too small. I also don't know if it may be a metric size or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Power Steering Fluid Leak

There is an O-ring where the hose connects to the pump. Get a new one and torque the nut to 17 Ft-Lbs.

Re: Power Steering Fluid Leak

i had the problem and its the hose as do many others with the 4.7, leaks at the tread on the pump. its a common problem

jeep made a newer version hose to fix the problem http://www.justforjeeps.com/01grch4hypos.html
no one else sells it so order it other then jeep so order online or at your local dealer.

also the 4.7 uses special PS fluid since its a Hydraulic system, called MS5931 only sold at the dealer and runs about $10 a quart. if they try to sell you ATF+4 dont take it
