After only getting my new Limited on April 20th, on my way back from New York to NC last night, some idiot didnt think he needed to stop for the rest of STOPPED traffic on I 895S through Baltimore. Nope, He definitely saw the rear of my Deep Cherry baby as a target. BAMM!!

I had my mother, and my dog in the car with me at the time and the first reaction we gave to the impact was, did we just get hit? It looks like the Nissan that hit us basically hit at the lowest point of the bumper, with the tow hitch assembly receiving all the damage. It did manage to completely crush my right muffler on my borla exhaust I installed, which in turn caused my passenger side rear tire to deflate. I had to get under the car and unbolt the muffler on the highway, in heavy rain, just so i could get the spare tire on.

The nissan was completely smashed in at the front, airbags deployed, radiator, frame everything smashed, but was able to get out of the car just fine. Everyone in my jeep (yes my dog counts as a person) was perfectly fine, and I was able to continue my drive tp NC after the spare went on.

The shop I took it to has estimated only about $1500 in damage so all in all not too bad. Mostly just a new bumper and tow setup, new muffler, and possibly a new tire.

I will say through all this how pleased I am with how well the Jeep absorbed all the impact, especially since that guy's car was totaled. Yay for insurance.

Sorry about the accident. My own brand new JGC got $6k in hail damage when it was 3 weeks old. I know the feeling in the pit of your stomach to have a new vehicle damaged.

I'm assuming the other guy's insurance will pay since you're not at fault when getting rear-ended.

Good thing you had the trailer hitch. And I'm glad you and family are OK. And I'm glad your JGC smashed the front end in on that idiot.

Yeah it sucks. I think thats what I'm most pissed off about. Its so brand new. My first NEW vehicle ever and this happens within days of owning it. His insurance will cover it yes, but still it stings.

Make sure the repair shop looks for hidden damage as they remove the old parts. Sounds like you have a good shop lined up.

Nice to have a GC with trailer hitch. It leaves a lasting impression upon those that stand on the brakes and try to dive under it. Carnage to them!!

I had a knucklehead rear-end me at low speed in my old Jeep, with a receiver.

Zero damage for me, but he had a nice new die-cut 2" x 2" hole in his bumper.

Glad to hear everyone is OK. I hope that your insurance company goes after a "diminished value" dollar amount in addition to the hard repair costs since the accident will show up on CarFax and Auto Check and will have some effect on the value.

I drive that section of road a good bit going between DC and Baltimore. Thats a constant fear of mine when traffic grinds to a total halt and you just sit there watching everybody else come to a grinding halt behind you. Terrible feeling. Glad everybody's okay.

Someone rear ended our Jeep when we were in Albany over New Years (much slower speed) and the same thing, he hit the trailer hitch and the only damage was a small scuff to the trim plate, while his whole front was bashed in. I took it to Geico (his insurer) when I got home who told me that the whole bumper cover had to be replaced and repainted to replace that piece, that the lower black cladding and the painted part of the bumper were one peice...and cut me a check for $600. Knowing that was of course not true, I bought the trim piece from the dealer for $40 and replaced it myself.

These cars can certainly take a lot of punishment. Under the plastic bumpers there's certainly some serious metal protecting us!

Glad everyone is ok, its quite the bummer... I would also investigate diminished value and possibly ask for something there too. Now that there maybe an accident on the vehicles history thats a hit you will take when and if you every try to sell it.
