Japan Impact on Production?

I have heard from numerous sources that the paint pigment for some of the colours comes from Japan and now they aren't available and this seems like a real problem.

However I just read on another site that the "Pentastar wiring harness" is also from Japan and now they can't build Pentastar engines anymore.

Can anyone confirm or refute this rumour?

Thanks!
Andy

Re: Japan Impact on Production?

If the harness bit is true, these are easy enough to have fabricated elsewhere, so any holdup should be brief.

Not so the reflective paint flakes used in various Jeep colors, which are only made at the one Merck plant damaged in the quake/tsunami. The hope is that the paint products plant will be turning out product in time for this summer's ramping up of Jeep MY2012 production.

Re: Japan Impact on Production?

Merck has announced that pigment production will resume on June 1: http://www.inautonews.com/japan-xira...le-from-june-1.

This week, my minivan finally gave it up after eighteen years. The kids are gone to college, so I thought I would finally order that red GC I've wanted for so long. Then the dealer told me I can have any color I want so long as it's gray or white. Sigh.

When will they take orders for 2012 models?

I was lucky enough to get one of the Bronze Star Pearlcoat 70th Edition Grands. They are exceedingly rare and mine was one of two in a 200+ mile radius. That is one of the colors that suffered from major supply issues.

Gotta wonder how prudent it would be to order before cars are in dealer lots, or even before production has started. Between the time the order is placed and MY2012 is a reality, who knows how many changes there will be.

And that's aside from not being to see some of the new colors in the light of day as opposed to an LCD.

Of course, the upside is you get a three-month jump on delivery, cutting the waiting time in half.

Congratulations! While I admit that particular color scheme is not my first choice, it is distinctive and will remain fairly rare. It's always nice when there's no other vehicle like yours in the parking lot at the mall

Most importantly - its a WK2 and if you're like me, you're loving it right now. So ... ready to post some pics?

Thank you. I am loving the WK2 so far. It's my 6th Jeep and my favorite already. Here's what it looked like at the time of delivery:
